'A player is allowed to place his or her feet firmly in taking a stance, ..' That doesn't sound like all you did ' ..but is in breach of Rule 8.1a if he or she alters the ground where the stance will be taken ..' Well you certainly did that ' .. if altering the ground improves the area of intended stance.' If it didn't, why did you do it? Certainly seems to fit the bill for a breach What the pros may or may not do means nothing, witness tamping grass down behind ball, leaving ball as backstop

Nope we are in the US and both have Garmin GPS watches that track every shot and record the distance. He has always been a good athlete and pretty strong. He hits his 3 wood about 10 to 20 yards further than my driver and I avg 267. He started taking lessons at the end of last summer and is finally starting to hit his irons a bit better but he still goes through spurts of hitting it off the heal which sends it straight to the right, usually out of bounds or into the water ? I am the opposite, I struggle with my driver, but hit my irons better than most.

Letting my trail arm 'fly' has been a great thing for my game. What's important is that I don't try to 'place' the right arm higher, it's synced with my pivot. I'd film the swing first though to confirm it's actually tucked. Trail elbow might have nothing to do the distance lose. With the younger guys now, I'd say it's the opposite.

Callaway Epic Flash and Epic Flash Sub Zero Drivers Review
Driver Shaft Length – Are You Shorting Yourself. From the beginning of the 20th century all the way through to the middle 1980s, the standard men’s driver length stood at 43”. Starting in the 1980s, all the golf equipment companies began to increase the standard length of the driver to the point that today, all men’s drivers are made to a length between 45 ½” and 46 ½”. New driver shafts are made as long as 46 inches, requiring them to be cut down to size for most players. Longer shafts – those above 45 inches – tend to equate to faster swings, given the longer arc along which the clubhead must travel.
